 | | It’s hard to believe we’re in our fourth week of classes! Students at all levels continue to work hard as we establish good dance habits, develop strong technique, and build community within our classes. We will celebrate our community towards the end of this month with a Spirit Week. This is the time of year when also start registering ballet students for springtime Royal Academy of Dance exams. Scroll for more details!
Throughout the year, we hold one-day and multi-week workshops to focus on a theme or specific skill set. Our first of this dance year is on October 25, when Miss Stephanie is teaching an afternoon ballet camp for little ones (Registration is open!). Next month, Miss Caroline is teaching a 4-week series focusing on contemporary choreography, open to students in 8th grade and up (Registration opening soon!).
Classes remain as scheduled for Friday, October 10, even though it is a school break for Spokane Public Schools. We follow the SPS calendar only for major breaks (i.e., Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break), observed federal holidays, and weather-related closures. (All of these dates are in our Studio Guide!)
We realize you might miss class due to sickness or a family obligation. You can make up with a class that is the same level, or a level above or below. Feel free to send the studio an email about absences and/or makeups, but you may also text the teachers directly: Stephanie Gronholz (Monday and Thursday afternoon ballet): 720-254-5023 Ann Eldore (Monday evening, Tuesday, Wednesday ballet): 951-293-2331 Marty Newell-Large (Thursday evening ballet): 509-475-9925 Sara Stradley Wright (Saturday ballet): 509-499-1559 Caroline Zoretic (contemporary): 509-449-3370 Angie Brown (tap): 509-368-1469
One more reminder: Long hair must be off the face for all ballet classes. A pony tail, half pony, braid, pig tails, or bun is fine for Pre-Ballet-Grade 1. By Grade 2, dancers should be able to put their hair in a ballet bun and will be asked to do so (our assistants can help) before joining class if their hair isn’t done properly. |

|
| | Spirit Week!We invite all dancers to wear a costume — Halloween or otherwise! — between October 27 and November 1. Please ensure that the costume does not limit movement or visibility. Appropriate dance shoes must be worn, and ballet dancers’ hair must be pulled back. We will also have our dance costume inventory out for sale; costumes are $25 each or 2/$40.

Little ones are invited to a magical (and only slightly spooky) afternoon with Miss Stephanie. We will create Halloween crafts, do story yoga, and dance like ghosts, bats, zombies, and spiders...oh my! This event is open to current students, former students, prospective students, and friends. Space is limited, so register soon to ensure your spot. |
|
| | |
| Join Stephanie and Sara for 45 minutes of beginner-friendly gentle yoga followed by a 45-minute sound bath that uses different bowls and chimes to help you relax and unwind at the end of your week. Open to all! When you register, you may select individual classes or the two remaining classes for a discounted rate. |

| | RAD Exams
This month Miss Ann will be reaching out to see if your ballet dancer (Grade 1 and up) is interested in taking a Royal Academy of Dance Exam. This is an excellent performance opportunity for them and really helps improve their technique since they're working towards a specific performance date. It also gives the dancers a genuine sense of achievement and pride.
The exams are scheduled sometime between March 2nd and April 30. An accredited examiner from the RAD visits our studio to adjudicate the students. There are different exam options available, but all dancers from our studio would take the same type of exam together. The dancers then receive a certificate and pin at a later date. We usually offer a few extra practice sessions (optional) which cost $20 per practice to help students feel prepared.
Please feel free to reply to this email with any questions. Many of our older dancers have participated in exams every year and find them very rewarding. We truly believe that taking the exam is beneficial and worthwhile for our dancers! |

| Congratulations!Students from our studio will be performing in production of the Nutcracker produced by the Parents of Ballet Arts Academy, as well as in State Street’s production with the Spokane Symphony. Tickets for both are on sale now!
This Friday, you can watch Miss Caroline perform in Gonzaga Dance’s 60x60 show. Check out the department’s full calendar here. |

| Our tap teacher, Miss Angie, is multi-talented. She is hosting a vendor market this weekend and is inviting all of us to come and see what she and her friends have made this season! |
